Is Your Blog A WiiFM For Your Readers

If you want to write a blog, then write one people will read.

Funnily, I was reading a good article on what a blog is, or should be to your reader. Educational first. Personal to a great extent because it is your opinion that appears in each post, and leave out the high sales pitch – unless you also are looking for a high bounce rate.

My words above, but his thoughts. Here is where I choose to agree to disagree.

If monetizing a blog is what you intend to do then have two blogs.

It takes times to brand yourself on the net, and even longer to position yourself as an authority in any niche. Yes, I said niche. No way you or I will ever be an authority in every interest we have, promote or develop. Certainly not in any way that will endear us to our intended readership.

Statistics show it takes a minimum SIX months of continuous posting – like two to three times per week, to gain the branding and positioning you will need to be recognized.

I run six plus blogs. Even though they are company blogs, if I was to sell, sell, sell, every entry then my readership bounce rate would set a world record.

Instead, my posts can do both but from an educational or training perspective. The ‘why‘ am I posting what I post, to the ‘why’ should you read it, becomes an easy WiiFM for you.

If there is a benefit clearly stated that improves your marketing then the ‘why’ becomes a positive for everyone.

A personal blog can be a great way to review products or software or ebooks or whatever affects your marketing scope. Creating that all important relationship with your prospective readers is a must. So having an opinion on what can affect your target market is where you want to be in your blogging.

This is educational from both the personal angle, because it is your opinion so they need to get to know and trust you, and from the professional marketing perspective because you give them the inside scoop on the many marketing aspects they need to know about and may not have time to learn before possibly paying a high price for making a risky decision.

As you cannot be all things to all people, neither can your blog or blogs. Define what your niche is, what you know and what you want to get to know, then decide, one blog or two? Will the personal one begin the journey or will you test the waters and jump right in with a monetized blog?

Your Initial Approach To Advertising

It is easy enough to complicate your thinking about advertising in general, when you consider all the different forms that exist.

Could this be a good place to insert the Less is More theory? Yes, if you are determined to become professional at ONE form of advertising, getting the ropes under your skin until you breathe it and never give the frustration another thought.

You are already familiar with one form of advertising called branding. Getting your name, your face and even your contact information out there on the wide net so you will be the one they remember when they are ready to make a buying decision.

If it was that simple, then your list, your conversions, your buyers would be building at warp speed. Kind of get the feeling someone left something out?

Getting to Know You

A name, a face or contact information on a hundred different offers hardly sets you up as someone they can trust. If you are spread that far across the net then what you are advertising is that you are a not so successful affilitate looking for your first dollar.

If you want others to get to know you, then it might serve you best to get to know yourself. Why are you on line? Why are you joining so many different programs – always grasping for the brass ring?

You will never make a success of much of this action if you have no real feeling for what you are joining. Most offers are not so bad but the same cannot be said for those who sign up.

Getting to know what you like

If you buy in on hyped up sales material then you will leave on hyped up anger that they are a fraud. Is there any reason you cannot join to find out about a program then leave if it does not suit you? No but there may be an easier way.

Most people who join up seldom unsubscribe when they leave. Bad manners. You decorate a data base for no good reason. If you are that timid then get off line. Or at least stop joining up until you learn a few simple netiquette manners that will make you stronger and very happy to belong to the right programs for you.

Advertising You By Networking

Have you heard that business online is all about you? It sure is. It is all about you getting your face, name and contact information out there in every way you can. NOT just on splash pages.

No matter how you look at it, for a while, you are going to be an affiliate. What kind of affiliate depends totally on how easy it becomes for you to ask the hard questions.

Connect with one of those faces on a program that interests you. Ask them all about it before you jump in and sign up. Know how long it has been on line. How good is the training? How friendly and happy ot help is the support system? How fast do they get back to you – with solutions or excuses?

What about this face you contacted? Are they interested in you and your needs or just getting you signed up with them? Here is the hard one. Most of your life you have tolerated being told NO! Now the shoe is on the other foot. If this is not what you want, if there is no comfort talking to this representative, can you say no?

If you cannot, if you sign up and decide not to bother once you can get away from them, then we will see you all over the net. Not in one program but in several. We will see you are not exactly the person to do business with and why. You will have found the first action in your approach to advertising that tells the Net world you need help.

Talents of 3-Step Movie Makers Shine

You don’t know what talent you’ve got till you try and that is exactly what the participants of our Tuesday night 3-step Simple Strategy soon learned. Many thanks go out to our quiet, easy going instructor Bob Culbertson.

It was a hoot! The 3-Step Simple Strategy gang shone and the laughs were mile a minute.

Staying on top of what your business prospects demand is not always easy for the technologically challenged. But what if all you need is already yours? What if the video/moviemaker already resides on your computer?

The Triple Whammy of Unlimited Procrastination

What harm do you think a ‘little’ procrastination does in your life? There is a triple cost to procrastination.

When you keep putting off till tomorrow what you should have done yesterday, kinda get the guilt trip churning your stomach? In need of excedrin for that persistent headache?

Just how many ‘little’ things have you put off lately? How big is your list?

The top things people procrastinate/put off are:

* Exercising
* Eating healthy
* Organizing home and work areas
* Household cleaning
* Medical appointments
* Event planning details
* Paying traffic fines
* Preparing a will or other estate planning
* Keeping up with reading related to work
* Giving other people bad news
* Writing letters/emails
* Signing up for things in time to get “early bird” price breaks
* Investing/saving for the future
* Sending in rebates
* Returning library books/ rented movies/ other borrowed items
* Making phone calls/ Returning phone calls
* Travel related tasks
* Shopping for gifts
* Automotive repairs
* Home repairs
* Paying monthly bills
* Studying/ doing homework

If you can check off a lot of these items that still need doing then you need some checklists and get your life in order fast. Do your best to avoid the costs of procastination with a little back up to daily chores.

The emotional costs are heavy burdens. They affect your health, relationships, create financial costs, waste time because they still need to be tended to, and worst of all they attack your self image.

On the financial end, could procrastination be the reason you do not stay on top of your business by signing into your back office daily to read up on blog, newsletters, see what is going on that can make your day a whole lot happier?

Take a few seconds per item in that list and rethink your daily actions. How can you improve all those emotional and physical costs you just could not explain before?

Remember, successful people do what unsuccessful people won’t.

The Overachievers Confessional

Some days I never quit working. I get the birds up I am so stuffed with answers from a errant night of dreams that repeat themselves to the point I have to get up and do something with them.

On those days, everything is an interruption. Not just the door and the phone, but my online friends and workmates as well.

I really love you to bits but just not today. I need to get this work done before I burst. These are usually my writing daze cause that is what it is. I am in a daze until it is put to paper or notepad file.

Workaholic -Danger zone – Do Not Disturb

If you really want to see me po’d – and you don’t, believe me, then push in and interrupt the overachiever’s thought process.

It’s a lesson in reality. If you want to succeed then you better be prepared to do some hard work. Sometimes we just need a little reminder of the obvious. Apparently, I am well known at passing out DAS BOOT when I think it is ‘obviously’ needed.

From the 40-hour work week to the 80-hour love fest.

Take a hard look at the superachievers we see on TV and often enough now, daily on our computers. Donald Trump, Dr Oz, Colin Powell, Suze Orman- (man I want to steal her teeth!) Sir Richard Branson .. and the list goes on. What do they have in common? They all are hardworking.

They love what they do so no way is it like the 40-hour work week that never seems to end. Just like them, I would rather be working than laying on a beach or hitting the fav flavor bar of the week.

The ‘weak end’ to me is people who set such stringent guidelines that Monday to Friday is work week and they have got to have the weekend off. Screams employee mind set to me. Bet they even expect a Friday pay check.

It took me a while to realize that success is not 40-60 hours of drudgery, but spending time on high-value productivity stragegies that advance our company goals. Strategies that will build you once we can show them to you.

So does that mean I need time off? You bet it does! A day here or often two days but not for the sake of time off, but to refresh the grey cells. To help me come back ready to improve my productivity. That way I know I am advancing my dreams.

When our country is in a depression. When the belt has to be tightened for survival, then it is time to make an extreme change in your outlook. Time to get back the right mindset that says “Ican and I will.” Realign with your true character, rebuild your work ethic and invite a little discipline into the time you spend chasing your dreams.

You might make it if you plan on outworking your competition.

Rounding The Mulberry Bush of Mentors

As we search for the right marketing mentor, forever following this lead and that lead from friends and foes, articles and upsells, blogs and forums, ending up frustatingly overwhelmed and no further ahead …

“Pop goes the Weasel!”

The first thing that needs to be asked is ‘What have you done so far?”

Are you guilty of taking a bit from this one, a bit from that one, trying to put together a strategy you think will work, only to find no one follows your lead and you end up a little further in debt?

There are a lot of words tossed around like good old patience, persistence, integrity, building own lists, building solid business foundations and so much more. They are all necessary parts of the whole. However, trying to be them all, fix the missing links with bits and pieces from one mentor to the next, really only makes you shark bait for the next offer of instant fixes.

The net is a do-it-yourself world but not because there are no choices but because very few mentors can even tell you why they do certain actions. Regardless of the boast to testing, most do not test enough to explain their success. They only know action #1 paid off so with a little tweaking it should pay more. Having done so, having increased the income projections, they sigh with relief and pass it on to you.

Mystic Mentors Disappear With The Dawning of Reality

Just like your dreams of quick fix successes because you took the best part from each. The end result is way too often broke, frustrated and asking, ‘Can you really make money on the net?”

Patience and persistence in the right order will help you choose ONE mentor at a time where you can really focus on what is really proving to you works, where your persistence will pay off in created income that will come because you followed and tested and measured the result of what was being offered to you.

There is little doubt that any strategy can be improved. However, can it really be improved with any modicum of projected success if you have failed step one?

You have found your mentor, followed their lead, tested their projections and have taken your first successful step online. What you did not do is fail because you did not mix the advice of half a dozen well meaning mentors into a stew that would have blown your future.

The SEO Conundrum

I love it when I see good solid Marketing educational articles telling their readers that Less IS More. It is no different when it comes to Search Engine optimization.

First, write for your reader. The SEO will fall in place if you have your keyword content strategy in place.

The search tail is the place you need to get comfortable with before you decide to fight the competitive road with root keywords.

While a long-tail keyword phrase consists of four words or better, the fruit seems to lead to the two-word sweet spot in capturing the audience that stays and pays.

It’s called tapping into the search tail. While it may bring you less traffic, you stand a better chance of jumping closer to the top of search results. That means you increase your chances of driving more revenue from achieving such prominent rankings for these less competitive phrases.

For example: Doing a keyword search for ‘free traffic’ will bring up 210,000 global monthly searches. That can be pretty competitive in respect to where you might land using this two-word phrase.

Try ‘targeted traffic’ which will bring up 60,500 searches and puts you in a better position to rank higher. The ‘Less is More’ puts you in a position of increased revenue potential.

You can bring that search down even tighter by adding brackets around the keywords – [free traffic] and see what that does for your keyword content strategy.
